The World Evangelical Alliance is pleased to announce the appointment of Geoff Tunnicliffe as its new International Coordinator and CEO for the next two years, following the recent resignation of Gary Edmonds. Members of the WEA who attended the May, Global Issues Summit Conference in Orlando, Florida wholeheartedly supported this appointment by the WEA’s International Council Members. Tunnicliffe is no stranger to the WEA community. For the past seven years, he has been a member of the Global Leadership team of the WEA Mission Commission. “I am delighted that Geoff has accepted the appointment and committed to assist the WEA in its quest of realizing the goals of uniting and rallying evangelicals, around the globe, to be communities of grace and hope,” says Ndaba Mazabane, chair of the WEA International Council.

Geoff Tunnicliffe is a resident of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and comes to the post with a broad range of global missions and partnership initiative experience. Prior to the appointment, Tunnicliffe served as the President of International Teams Canada before transitioning to the position of Director of Global Initiatives for the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada and has been involved in several joint EFC/WEA projects and International initiatives including the Refugee Highway Partnership and Churches Together, addressing HIV/AIDS in Africa. He also consults with local churches interested in developing global mission plans and with emerging national alliances around the world. “The WEA is in very good hands,” says Edmonds. “Geoff is very knowledgeable about evangelical alliances and global realities. From his many years of international ministry, he has developed an ability to understand different cultures and assisted in the creation of many collaborative initiatives that advance the gospel of Jesus Christ.”

Tunnicliffe will work closely with the Executive Committee of the WEA to address issues such as donor relations, communication with members and affiliates, and the transition of the WEA secretariat office. During the recent WEA Summit in Orlando, Tunnicliffe presented a working document that outlined organizational changes aimed at strengthening the services provided to the WEA Constituencies and increasing its global voice of the worldwide evangelical community. The proposal calls for a “flat structure” with an active service center at its core. The concept was discussed thoroughly and energetically endorsed. It will mark the course for the work of WEA staff over the coming two years. The proposal includes housing the offices of the International Service center at the EFC headquarters in Toronto, Canada, which will provide it with important logistical and administrative infrastructure support systems.

“We live in exciting times where the impact of globalization brings new mission opportunities and challenges to the Church of Jesus Christ. With this in mind, I would appreciate your prayers as I assume these new responsibilities. I feel very humbled and privileged to be asked to serve His body of believers in this way”, says Tunnicliffe. “National Alliances around the world benefit from the services of WEA and we are pleased that Geoff will contribute the skills and abilities needed during this time,” said Bruce Clemenger, President of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC). “We, at the EFC, extend our blessing and pledge our support to Geoff in his new calling.”

World Evangelical Alliance is a global network of 123 nations who each have formed an evangelical church alliance. Nearly 3,000,000 local churches and 380 million Christians identify with these alliances.
