April 28 - 29, 2020
Booth University College, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
From April 28 to 29, 2020, Commissioner M. Christine MacMillan, Senior Advisor for Social Justice and Chair of WEA’s Global Human Trafficking Task Force, will speak on the topic of “Pursuing Justice in Our Own Frontyard” in Booth University College in Manitoba, Canada, as part of 2020 Earl Robinson memorial lecture series.
The phrase “not in my backyard” is often quoted when social programs are wanting to establish services to victims of injustice in selected neighbourhoods. Moving from the backyard to the front yard, says Christine, “puts social justice in its rightful place, while exposing the community to the hidden dimensions of their neighbourhoods.”
The prophet Isaiah highlights “God’s love for justice” in print and action. The conversations over the two days will consider justice through the lens of spirituality. Seeking insights to understand the darkness of injustice before embarking on the light of justice will be paramount.
Developing responses of advocacy will be outlined while discovering participative methods for academia, local churches and society to become involved.
