The Three Self Church and Patriotic Movement (TSPM) of AnHui has recently donated 70,000 facemasks to Zimbabwe in order to support the nation’s response to the COVID-19 crisis. The donation was facilitated by the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) at the request of the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe.

Rev. Dr. Goodwill Shana (right) hands over a box of disposable face masks from a church in AnHui, China, to Rev. Blessing Makwara, General Secretary of the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe.

In a letter to Bp Dr Goodwill Shana, Chair of WEA’s International Council and head of the World of Life Ministries in Zimbabwe, WEA Secretary General Bp Efraim Tendero wrote: “We are pleased to inform you that the World Evangelical Alliance in partnership with the China Christian Council is donating 70,000 pieces of disposable protective masks for your free distribution to the people in Zimbabwe with the help of the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe. This is our way of helping mitigate the spread of Covid-19 in your country. As a free donation, this will be of no cost to you and we ask that they will be freely distributed to the people who are in need.”

In March, the WEA launched a COVID-19 task force that focused on providing resources to churches through its network of more than 130 regional and national Evangelical Alliances. More recently, WEA also ran a campaign for the Pastors Emergency Fund that raised financial resources to support struggling pastors in several developing nations.

After the masks were delivered to Zimbabwe, Bp Tendero wrote to the church in AnHui: “On behalf of the people and the churches of Zimbabwe, the WEA would like to express our deepest appreciation to the TSPM of AnHui for the generous donation of 70,000 face masks to the people of Zimbabwe. This timely contribution at this Covid-19 pandemic truly demonstrated your love and solidarity with them amidst of suffering and hardship. The love of Christ is truly expressed in your action.”
