Global Christian Forum Consultation

General November 7, 2008

November 7, 2008:
Evangelical Fellowship of India is privileged to host the Global Christian Forum (GCF) Consultation from Nov. 8th to 11th, 2008 at New Delhi.

The GCF is about bringing into conversation with one another Christians and churches from very different traditions who have little or never talked to each other. It is about building bridges where there are none, overcoming prejudices, creating and nurturing new relationships.

For nearly a decade a compelling vision has empowered the Global Christian Forum process, whose participants have yearned to bring together church leaders and other Christians from all the families and traditions that lay claim to faith in Christ as Saviour and Lord. This vision has also reflected the dramatic shift in the shape of Christianity in the 21st century, which is growing so rapidly in the global south. Representatives of the historic Protestant Churches, the Catholic Church, the Orthodox Churches, the Pentecostal Churches, the broader Evangelical movement and other Christian Churches and communities have discerned the need to be brought into relationship with one another for the sake of witness to the Gospel.

About sixty representatives of all the different church families, traditions and movements are participating in the Global Christian Forum meet in New Delhi, India from 8 – 11 November to work out a 3 – year programme of the GCF for the period 2009 – 2011. The programme will be based on the recommendations of the 2007 Limuru Global Forum and the reports of the evaluation of the process from 1998 to 2007. The New Delhi meeting will also reflect on how the 3 – year programme could culminate in a major Forum event in late 2011 or early 2012, and what shape such an event might take.

In the last couple of months violence against Christians, churches and Christian institutions has escalated in India. The GCF meeting is an opportunity to learn about the situation and to express the concern and solidarity of the church worldwide with the Christians and the churches and the people of India.

Pray for the Global Christian Forum Consultation.
