India: Hindu Extremists Attack Pastors' Conference in Raipur

About 100-150 Hindu extremists attacked a pastor's conference held in Pandri, Raipur district in Chhattisgarh state on February 2, 2007. The activists severely beat up 30 people along with two foreigners, a Mr. Jack and Mr. Coli. Mr. H.K. Patel said "Hindu extremists dragged them a distance of 1 km to the police station beating them along the way." A young Christian man, Sakha Ram was brutally beaten and suffers injuries all across his body.

Two other foreigners, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Olson were able to escape the mob with the help of local Christians. Local sources informed that women were also mishandled by the attackers. The extremists also took a laptop, Rs.5000 cash and two mobile phones.

CLAI spoke to Mr. Sewa Singh and Mr. H.K. Patel who were both at the conference and have registered an FIR under sections 147, 148, 149 and 294 against the unknown attackers at the Moa Police Station in Pandri, Lodhi Para, Raipur .
