News Flash from Evangelical Fellowship of India
On March 31, during an evening service in Ulhasnagar, Thane district near Mumbai, 10-15 Hindu extremists (a mix of Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena, RSS and Sindhi locals) attacked the 50-60 worshippers of True Worship Ministry Church with iron rods.
80% of the worshippers were seekers (neither Christian or of other faiths). The extremists severely beat the pastor of the church and broke both of his legs. They also damaged the building causing a loss of 1.5 lacs.
After the attack, the attackers went to the police station to lodge a First Information Report (FIR) but were denied. The Christians, however, were able to lodge a FIR. No one has yet been arrested in this case.
One of the reasons for the attack is believed to be due to the flourishing of many churches in the Ulhasnagar area.
Pray that the church would continue to grow strong in Ulhasnagar and for the full recovery of the injured pastor.
