Welcome! We hope you will enjoy using these reflections with us!
This week's reflection is 'An Evangelical Declaration on the Care of Creation' published by the Evangelical Environmental Network.
'As followers of Jesus Christ, committed to the full authority of the Scriptures, and aware of the ways we have degraded creation, we believe that biblical faith is essential to the solution of our ecological problems.'
The declaration refers to several biblical references. Let us reflect on some of them:
Psalm 24:1: 'The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.'
Hosea 4:1,3: 'There is no faithfulness, no love, no acknowledgment of God in the land...Because of this the land mourns, and all who live in it waste away.'
Isaiah. 55:12: 'You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.'
The declaration affirms God's sovereignty over all creation and that's why there is hope.
'We believe that in Christ there is hope, not only for men, women and children, but also for the rest of creation which is suffering from the consequences of human sin.
Therefore we call upon all Christians to reaffirm that all creation is God's; that God created it good; and that God is renewing it in Christ.'
Let us pray:
§ Let us 'commit ourselves to work vigorously to protect and heal that creation for the honour and glory of the Creator.'
§ For Micah Challenge
o Praise God for a great interest in this event in the run up.
o Please pray for Rev Dr Chris Wright, the main speaker at this event, that he will be able to present biblical teaching in such a way that the participants can engage and be motivated to act.
§ Reflecting on the statistic below: we praise God for the many women in the world who work for the good of their family and communities without pay. May God reward them richly for these acts of humility and kindness!
However, we also pray (and work) for justice for these women so that an increasing number of them will be able to access job security and social protection.
Meditate on the Statistics
As you spend time in prayer and reflection, you may like to take a moment to silently understand with your heart the focus statistic we include each week (see below). Our hope is that you will find this series of statistics a useful resource in preparing presentations.
