Musalaha Prayer Update, October 2008

Prayer October 11, 2008

Dear Friends,

We are now into the full swing of the holiday season here in Jerusalem. Ramadan has just ended for the Muslim community, and the Jewish holidays are underway throughout this month. As so many are running around trying to fulfill their religious obligations, it is important to remember the obligation we have to love one another, just as God loves us.

Musalaha has also had a busy fall thus far, with Women’s meetings happening almost weekly, a Youth Follow Up Meeting that just took place in the Arava desert, and a Young Adults Desert Encounter that leaves in a few days and will take place in Jordan. I will also be on a speaking tour of the United States for the last part of this month, and have been planning, praying, and preparing for this trip for a long time.

I would like to share with you a number of ways you can keep Musalaha’s ministry of reconciliation in prayer. There are quite a few events and programs coming up, as well as some more general prayer requests. Thank you for faithfully supporting and lifting Musalaha up in prayer. Without this support, none of these projects would be possible.

Thank you again and God bless,

Salim J. Munayer Ph.D.

Musalaha Director

PRAYER REQUESTS

October 15-19, Young Adult Desert Encounter

This trip will include more than 30 Israeli and Palestinian young adults who will trek out to Wadi Rum for five days of camel riding, hiking, relationship building and learning. Yoel Goldberg and Salim Munayer will be teaching on Stages of Reconciliation for these first-time participants. Please keep the young adults in prayer as they prepare their hearts to have a spirit of reconciliation and that God would give them a physical covering of protection as they travel and spend time in the desert.

November 14-17, Youth Leaders Training Conference

Part two in the series of the Youth Leader’s training conference is coming up as Israeli and Palestinian youth leaders from all over the country will head to the Dead Sea in Jordan for training that focuses on youth leadership and reconciliation. Please remember to lift the youth leaders up that those who signed up would be committed to attend, that the Lord would give them traveling mercies as they make their way to Jordan and that the teaching would uplift them and thoroughly equip them for working with youth in their respective communities.

Three-Year Plan 2009-2011

Please keep us in prayer as we are in the process of sending out the three-year plan for Musalaha from 2009 through 2011. That as these booklets are sent out all over the world, people would be blessed by learning about the many ongoing programs and further endeavors to promote reconciliation by biblical means between Israelis and Palestinians. Despite the global economic crisis we continue to faithfully trust that God wants to bring reconciliation to His people, and will provide for His work. If you have not received Musalaha’s Three-Year Plan let us know and we would be happy to send you a copy.

Women’s Update

The annual women’s conference is coming up on November 27 through the 29. All five of our women’s groups will be joinng together for a time of fellowship focusing on the topic of Truth and sharing personal testimonies as they retreat to Kibbutz Almog in southern Israel. The conference will focus on historical events that have shaped and influenced people on both sides. For the Palestinians, the events of the 1948 war and for the Israelis, the Holocaust. Also, coming up the women on December 27 will host a day of fellowship at the Baptist village for them and their families in celebration of Christmas and Hanukkah. We ask that you especially uplift the upcoming women’s conference as we deal with an extremely sensitive issue, that God be with the speakers and enable them to speak the truth but in a merciful way. We also ask that you pray that these women come with an open heart that they will be able to deal with these issues that it will be constructive and not destructive. And, please pray that the Hanukkah/Christmas party will expose families to the work of Musalaha and spark an interest in fulfilling its mission of becoming peacemakers.
