The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada’s Religious Liberty Commission (EFC RLC) has today released a report detailing the present oppression and discrimination of Christians in Egypt.

Entitled Religious Freedom in Egypt: The Case of the Christian Minority, the 17-page document looks at the major factors contributing to the limited religious freedom for Egypt’s Christian citizens.

The EFC RLC report provides information on discrimination within the Egyptian constitution as well as at a local level. It examines the history and motivation behind the persecution and provides accounts of recent cases as examples.

“It is important that the challenges facing Egyptian Christians are understood,” states Don Hutchinson, chair of the EFC RLC. "Our hope is that external groups such as the Canadian government and the United Nations will better identify and address the problems of discrimination entrenched within Egyptian laws and the large issue of prejudice that is prevalent in the minds of the population at large in order to work towards freedom of religion for all in Egypt."

The report is available on the EFC website at:
