Church attacked; pastor captured and beaten for 3 days in NEPAL
On 1 February, a church in Borang, a predominantly Christian village in Nepal was attacked by a group of unidentified people led by a Buddhist monk. According to reports, the attackers destroyed furniture, cut off electricity and phone cables to the pastor’s house and attempted to torch the church building.
It is also reported that the pastor was captured in the attack and beaten for 3 days. The captors then forced the pastor to sign a letter stating he would discontinue the church and refrain from lodging a police complaint on the incident.
Prior to the attack, the Buddhist monk held a village meeting and demanded that all villagers renounce Christianity and follow Buddhism. During the meeting, villagers were asked to bow down before an idol and then forced to carry Buddhist scriptures on their heads around the village.
It is believed that the pastor was attacked for refusing to obey the demands of the monk.
Pray for God’s healing upon the pastor and other Christians who were attacked in the incident;
Pray for God’s protection and guidance over all Christians in Borang;
Pray that the Buddhist monk responsible for instigating the attacks, would experience a change in heart, repent and come to the knowledge of Christ.
