EFC PRESIDENT TO ADDRESS MILITARY CHAPLAINCY

EFC President Bruce Clemenger is speaking at the annual meetings of the Interfaith Committee on Canadian Military Chaplaincy on June 7 and 8. He will be speaking to chaplains from EFC affiliate denominations on the topics of pluralism, secularism and the changing context of ministry in Canada. The May/June issue of Faith Today carried a feature story on evangelical military chaplains.

AEROPLAN CHANGES ITS POLICY AFTER EXCLUDING EVANGELICAL MINISTRIES
The EFC received a reply to its open letter to Aeroplan, noting that the policy excluding evangelical ministries has been changed to exclude all religious causes. Read more and follow the continuing exchange on our website.

THE EFC CHALLENGES PROVINCIAL HERITAGE ACT
This week EFC VP Don Hutchinson wrote a letter to Ontario Minister of Tourism and Culture Michael Chan on the effect of the Ontario Heritage Act on the religious freedom of faith communities in Ontario.

THE EFC THANKS MONCTON FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM ACCOMMODATION
Don Hutchinson wrote an open letter to the mayor of Moncton in recognition of the council’s accommodation of religious freedom for a local church during an annual sporting event.

EFC VP PRESENTS RESEARCH ON COMMUNAL DISCERNMENT
Aileen Van Ginkel, EFC VP of ministry services, presented preliminary research on the practice of “communal discernment” (an integrated approach to prayer and planning) at the annual conference of Christian Higher Education Canada in Calgary May 31.
