Together for influence, impact and identity
EFC PRESIDENT PART OF WORLD RELIGIOUS LEADERS SUMMIT
The president of The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC), Bruce Clemenger, attended the World Religious Leaders Summit in Winnipeg, which included religious leaders from the G8 nations. The summit issued a faith challenge statement delivered to the Honourable Steven Fletcher, Minister of State for Democratic Reform for consideration of the Prime Minister, G8 and G20 leaders.
KNOW A FAITH GROUP FACING CHALLENGES FROM MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT?
In response to a growing number of calls received on this issue, the EFC’s Centre for Faith and Public Life is releasing Zoned Out: Religious Freedom in the Municipality. The 20-page document is an introductory guide to understanding the religious freedoms of faith groups and the engagement process when they face municipal zoning challenges. Download the report or view the press release.
URGENT PRAYER ALERT FOR CHRISTIANS IN AFGHANISTAN
The EFC's Religious Liberty Commission has issued a prayer alert in response to the disturbing comments made by high ranking government officials in Afghanistan, which have sounded an alarm worldwide. Some Afghan leaders are calling for imprisonment and even possible death sentence for Christians found guilty of engaging in “proselytizing” or evangelical activity. Currently, many Afghan believers are fleeing their homes to escape dragnet activity by their own government. Some believers are already reported missing.
WHY SHOULD THE GOVERNMENT KNOW WHAT YOUR CHURCH IS DOING?
Submitting your congregation's annual Charitable Information Return (CIR) not only fulfills a statutory requirement but it is a public government record of the ministries your congregation is engaged in and how they benefit your community. The EFC’s Centre for Research on Canadian Evangelicalism uses CIR information for research on Canadian Evangelicalism. This research helps ministry leaders make better decisions and represents Evangelicals to media and government. Often the Program Description section of the CIR is neglected when the forms are completed, but this section is very important for helping us understand the ministries that Evangelicals are engaged in. Please take the time to carefully describe all your congregation’s ministries on the Program Description section of your CIR.
SUPPORTING THE CHILD IN CHURCH AND CULTURE
The Child in Church and Culture Partnership functions as an advocate for all children in Canada, and is a resource hub assisting different Christian groups and ministries to share resources and their insights in order to work better together for more effective children’s ministry. Partnership members are responsive to the issues affecting kids of today, and are willing to come to your church or ministry organization to help refine and engage children’s ministries.
