Persecution in SOMALIA[i]
Persecution in Somalia continues with increasing pressure over Christians, according to the latest reports of Compass Direct News Service. Osman Abdullah Fataho, a long-term Christian convert from Islam, active in the underground church in his area, was shot dead in his home in front of his wife and children on 21st July 2010 in Afgoi, Shibis district in Somalia. Fataho was murdered by Muslim insurgents, members of the al Shabaab militants, who are said to have links with al Qaeda. The assailants released Fataho’s wife but abducted his four children at ages 5, 7, 10 and 15 to train them as soldiers, to J brainwash them and change their way of life from Christian to Muslim. Compass Direct reports that the incident has spread fear among Christians in the country, “much of which lies in the grip of ruthless insurgents intent on rooting out any person professing Christianity.”
- Pray for protection over Christians in Somalia, especially the converts from Islam.
- Pray that the grip of ruthless insurgents in Somalia shall be broken by the power of the Lord.
- Pray for Fataho's wife and children.
Many Muslims turning to Christ in IRAN[ii]
VOM Canada sends an encouraging report that despite of the increased persecution, record numbers of Muslims are turning to Christ all over Iran. The Voice of the Martyrs additionally shares about several reports received by them of opposition faced by the Iranian Christians, including the arrest of 15 newly converted Christians in the city of Mashhad Razavi Khorasan in July 2010. In spite of that, Christians in Iran are not continuing to share Christ courageously and boldly, giving us inspiration and a great example
- Praise the Lord for the encouraging news from Iran and pray that new converts will grow strong in their faith.
- Continue to pray for protection over Christians in Iran.
- Pray that the Islamic government in Iran will allow full rights and protection for Christians in the nation
International Day of Prayer[iii]
You all probably are aware that the WEA RLC has set apart the month of November to remember and pray for the persecuted Church, through the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP).
This year the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada has announced the uniting of the IDOP Canada’s resources with the World Evangelical Alliance’s International IDOP group. It is a call for Christian believers in Canada to lift up a united global prayer on 14th November 2010 for those who, because of their faith in Jesus, fear for their safety and freedom. This year’s theme is Hearing Their Cry from Psalm 10:17: “You hear, O Lord, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry.”
