Pastor assaulted in Karnataka


Alleged Hindu extremists on June 23 beat up two pastors seriously injuring them in Chandapura, Anekal Karnataka.

Our correspondent Rev. Noel Kotian reported that Pastors Shidu Kurialose and Nithya Vachanam form Bethel Assembly of God Church were conducting prayer meeting in a Christian home. After the meeting, the Christians went to a tea stall to have a cup of tea when armed extremists rushed in on them.

The extremists accused the pastors of forceful conversion and started beating them with iron rods. Both the pastors sustained serious injuries and were admitted in a local hospital.


Pastor beat up in Karnataka

On June 13 in Anekal, Bangalore, Hindu extremists allegedly form the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh accused a pastor of forceful conversion and beat him up.

According to our correspondent Rev. Noel Kotian, in an apparently pre-planned attack, an unidentified person called Pastor Sam Joseph to come and pray for a sick person. The pastor agreed whereby he was taken person to a place where a group of Hindu extremists with media people gathered.

The extremists accused the pastor of forceful conversion, beat him up and later dragged him to Hebbagudi police station. The police released the pastor without charges after they force the pastor to declared that he will restrain himself from conducting Christian meetings in future.


Orphanage Shut down in Karnataka

Based on the complaint of the Hindu extremists against the Christians of forceful conversion, Karnataka officials closed down a Christian orphanage on June 16 in Karwar.

Our correspondent reported that Spring of Hope Orphanage & Vocational Arts Training Centre look after about tribals 61 students. Officials visited the school site and issued an order to the Christians to close down the orphanage claiming that the land does not belong to them.

The home has been functioning for about four years giving educational and vocational training to the Siddi. Area Christian leaders are taking steps to solve the matter.


Church attack in Andhra Pradesh

Suspected Hindu extremists stoned Don Bosco Church, broke the statues of Mother Mary installed in the church’s premises on June 12 in Ranga Reddy, Andhra Pradesh.

Our correspondent reported that attackers broke the statues of Mother Mary, Joseph and infant Jesus, took the broken statues and dropped them in the middle of the road and pelted stones to the church

The area Christians staged a protest demanding police protection to the church and an action against the perpetrators. Police officials visited the spot and investigation is underway.


Pastor attacked in Uttar Pradesh

Allegedly About 8 Hindu extremists disrupted the Sunday worship Service ( 20 June) in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.

Our correspondent Advocate Tehmina Arora reported that Hindu extremists massed up at Apostolic Christian Assembly’s church shouting anti-Christian slogans and later forced into the church.

They accused Pastor Benny Goerge of forceful conversion and verbally abused him for his faith and stopped the meeting. Police came to the spot and chased the extremists away.

The pastor till press time was threatened by the extremists not to conduct future worship meetings or face dire consequences. Police protection is provided to the pastor.


An appeal to write to authorities

As concerned people, kindly write to the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh appealing to them to safe guard the rights of the minority communities and to give protection to churches against attacks and to take immediate action against the perpetrators of violence.
