Guadeloupe: Escalating Violence

Prayer fr 18/02/2009

Evangelical Association of the Caribbean

I have received a report this morning that the situation in Guadeloupe is deteriorating with escalating violence – buildings and cars set on fire, battles between Guadeloupian youth and French armed forces – and one death overnight. I’m told that as many as 100,000 people are demonstrating on the streets this morning. A general strike has been on in Guadeloupe since January 20 and has now spread to Martinique and French Guyana (Guyane). Food is becoming scarce and positions on both sides are hardening. A very good report is available at http://www.iht.com/articles/2009/02/17/europe/france.php, the International herald Tribune.

Please take this matter up in intercessory prayer on behalf of our Caribbean brothers and sisters.
