On Monday, November 14, the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) together with the Christian Council of Korea (CCK) held a thanksgiving service and celebration for CCK's hosting of WEA's 2014 General Assembly in Korea.

Throughout the first part of the event, presided by the Rev. Jae Cheol Hong, Co-President of CCK, a 7-member WEA delegation representational of the global and evangelical body received a warm welcome address by the Represent President of CCK, the Rev. Ja Yeon Kiel followed by a sermon from the Bishop Sun Do Kim, President Emeritus of CCK and former president of the World Methodist Council from 1997 to 2001.

Soon after, joint prayers for the successful hosting of WEA's 2014 GA were offered by representatives of both bodies and a reciprocal welcome address from the WEA given by the Rev. Dr. Geoff Tunnicliffe, CEO/Secretary General of WEA, was responded by congratulatory addresses from the Rev. Ji Duk, president emeritus of CCK; Mr. Hyung O Kim, Former Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea; Mr. Seon Kyu Park, Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; and Mr. Cheon Sik Kim, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Unification.

"Three years from now, thousands of WEA leaders from around the world will gather to receive a fresh vision on how as followers of Christ, through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit we can see the world impacted through God’s transforming power," said Tunnicliffe.

"We are deeply grateful for the commitment of Korean Christian leaders, specifically for those of the Christian Council of Korea to serve the Global Church in hosting this significant event," he added.

"As we pray and work together in preparation for this General Assembly, we are trusting that it will be the most historic event drawing thousands of leaders from almost every nation on earth," said Tunnicliffe in a separate statement after the event.

This gathering succeeds the previous meeting between CCK and WEA in WEA's HQ in New York City, where the location and dates for the 2014 WEA General Assembly were confirmed as Seoul, Korea from the 18th to the 27th of October.

The WEA plans in January 2012 to bring a working group to Seoul to work alongside Korean counterparts in preparation for this GA.

The WEA is the largest global evangelical body with a network of churches in 129 nations and an alliance of 100 international organizations representing over 600 million Christians worldwide.

The CCK, the largest alliance of churches in South Korea, has within its membership 69 denominations and 20 Christian organizations that together represent over 12 million Christians in the world’s second largest missionary-sending country.
