Members of the World Evangelical Alliance Mission Commission Global Leadership Council, together with missions leaders from around the world, many representing WEA regional alliances, gathered at the OMF International headquarters in Singapore on 1–2 October 2026.

WEA Mission Commission Global Leadership Council

The meeting was hosted by Rev. Dr. Patrick Fung, Principal of Singapore Bible College and Global Ambassador of OMF International. It was the council’s first in-person meeting since the WEA General Assembly in Seoul in October 2025.

The meeting gave leaders the chance to share their different regional perspectives, internalize WEA’s CALL33 strategy, and consider how the Mission Commission can serve, connect, and strengthen missions movements in each of their contexts and globally.

Planning the 2027 Global Consultation

A key item on the agenda was planning for the Mission Commission Global Consultation (GC27), to be held at Rosebank Union Church in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 6–10 September 2027. The theme is “The Local Church in Global Perspective.”

The theme reflects a conviction that missions activities today are shaped by the voices, experiences, and leadership of the whole body of Christ, from every continent.

The aim is for global nourishing to accelerate local flourishing, with cross-cultural service strongly guided by local believers from within each ministry context.

The consultation is for church and denominational leaders; mission leaders, practitioners, and researchers; and emerging leaders with a heart for God’s purposes.

COALA: partnership rooted in humility and friendship

Following their meeting, half of the Global Leadership Council also took part in COALA 4.0, hosted by the Singapore Centre for Global Missions in Singapore on 5–7 October 2026.

COALA (Christ over Asia, Latin America and Africa) was inspired by discussions at the Mission Commission’s 2023 Global Consultation and formed in South Korea that same year. It provides a space for missions leaders from the Majority World to reflect, listen, and act for God’s mission.

This fourth gathering centered on sustainability, training, and South–South collaboration. At its heart is a simple principle: genuine partnership grows from humility and friendship, not from hierarchy or dependency.

Dr. Peirong Lin speaking at COALA 4.0

Dr. Peirong Lin, WEA Chief of Staff, brought a word of welcome on behalf of WEA. She encouraged participants that, while it is timely for missions leaders from the Majority World to reflect together, we are all one in Christ.

“Nearly 80% of Christianity will come from the global South. I hope that brothers and sisters will come up with a framework that is Global Christianity. One that reflects the Global Christ.”

Patrick Fung, plenary speaker at COALA 4.0

About the WEA Mission Commission

With missions central to evangelicalism, the WEA Mission Commission encourages the global Church to participate in the purposes of God — to communicate the Gospel where it is not currently known and establish replicating communities of maturing believers who are equipped to serve in the most contextually relevant ways for the blessing of every ethne (people group) and their environments.
