The General Secretary of the European Evangelical Alliance, Thomas Bucher, and the Secretary General of the World Evangelical Alliance, spoke to the General assembly of the Russian Evangelical Alliance (REA). They were accompanied by WEA-leader Johannes Reimer, who was born in the Soviet Union and travels Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia on behalf of EEA and WEA for decades.

Schirrmacher urged the REA to go for unity for the gospel’s sake, because Russia is the lingua franca in a large area and reaching the many language in area of the former Soviet Union depends on the spiritual vitality of the Russian churches. He also proposed going for a federal structure of REA, which allows autonomous republics of Russia with a distinct language and ethnic backround, to go for its own evangelical alliance as part of REA.

One of the results of the General Assembly was the election of Vitaly Vlasenko as General Secretary of the Russian Evangelical Alliance.
