Thomas Schirrmacher had an inaugural audience with Katja Doerner, the Major of Bonn, his home town and one of the three seats of the World Evangelical Alliance. that last minute had to be changed from a real visit in Bonn’s historic city hall to a virtual meeting. Schirrmacher introduced the major to the UN WEA Sustainability Center and WEA’s work to back the 17 Sustainability Goals of the United Nations. He stressed the importance of the role of religious actors on the UN campus in Bonn, especially for the largest of the 17 UN entities on the Un campus, the Climate Change Secretariat.
Schirrmacher was accompanied by his deputy, Dr. Peirong Lin from Singapore, but working in Bonn, and Lilian Kurz and Ulrich Nitschke representing the WEA Sustainability Center.

The Major was accompanied by Markus Goell, heading up the Office for International Affairs and Sustainability of the City of Bonn. Katja Doerner, born 1976 in Siegen, serves as mayor of Bonn since November 2020. Prior to being elected mayor of the city, she served in the Federal German Bundestag 2009 and 2020, representing the city as part of The Greens (party). During her tenure in the Bundestag, she was chosen as vice-chair of The Greens’ parliamentary group in 2013 and she filled that role until her decision to run for the mayoral post of Bonn.
