Together with his UN Representatives John Girgis and Deborah Fikes and with his wife Prof. Dr. Christine Schirrmacher, specialist on religious extremism, the Secretary General of WEA met Daryl G. Kimball, CEO of the Arms Control Association in Washington, receiving reports on the stage of the different global weapon treaties and proposals what WEA could do together with the Vatican and the World Council of Churches to get Russia and USA back on the table.
Daryl G. Kimball has been Executive Director of the Arms Control Association (ACA) and publisher and contributor for the organization’s monthly journal, Arms Control Today, since September 2001. Previously, from 1997 to 2001, he was executive director of the Coalition to Reduce Nuclear Dangers, a coalition of 17 of the largest U.S. non-governmental organizations working together to strengthen national and international security by reducing the threats posed by nuclear weapons, and from 1989 to 1997, associate director for policy and later director of security programs for Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR), where he organized media, advocacy, and education campaigns against the production and testing of nuclear weapons and conducted research projects on the health and environmental effects of the nuclear arms race. Kimball was a former Herbert R. Scoville Peace Fellow (1989), a graduate of Miami University of Ohio (1986), and was awarded the Ohio Governor’s Youth Award for Peace (1985).
The Arms Control Association is a United States-based nonpartisan membership organization founded in 1971, with the self-stated mission of “promoting public understanding of and support for effective arms control policies.” The group publishes the monthly magazine Arms Control Today.
