CHARIS is the acronym of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal International Service. During the 50th anniversary of the charismatic renewal in the Catholic Church 2017, Pope Francis ordered a unification of all the different movements worldwide into one cover network, CHARIS, which he placed under the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life in 2018. CHARIS coordinates, but has no authority over the different charismatic organisations and movements.
Pino Scafuro from Argentina became Moderator of CHARIS in 2021. He had represented CHARIS to the Spanish speaking world before. He is married to Carina and has two children. He has a degree in Psychology, with specialization in Pastoral Counseling, Transactional Analysis and Logotherapy. He is an industrial entrepreneur.
He met the Charismatic Renewal in 1985, three years later he joined the Charismatic Community “Convivencias con Dios”. Until 2021 he was coordinator of the Charismatic Renewal in the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires and responsible for Movements, Associations and New Communities of the Argentine Episcopal Conference.
