Following the earthquake that struck Colombia on 10 August 2026, the Evangelical Confederation of Colombia (CEDECOL) has activated a coordinated solidarity and support mechanism to assist churches, families, and communities affected by the emergency.
CEDECOL report that many families are in need of support and assistance. Columbian Evangelicals called on churches, Christian organizations, businesses, and people of goodwill to unite in prayer and action by supporting those facing the consequences of this disaster.

The World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) has announced it support to the people of Columbia and declared that it is standing alongside CEDECOL and affected communities. WEA Crisis Director Dirk Gerlach met with CEDECOL leaders via Zoom to hear about conditions on the ground, discuss needs, and explore ways to support the ongoing relief response. WEA stated “it remains committed to standing with its national alliance partners and supporting the global evangelical family as they respond to crises and humanitarian emergencies.”
Relief effort response will be coordinated by Pastor Héctor Pardo and Pastor Lyda Arias de García, President of CEDECOL, in coordination churches in the affected areas, and relevant authorities. “The goal is to ensure that assistance is organized responsibly and reaches the families and communities that need it most,” President and Pastor Lyda Arias de García, President of CEDECOL said.
Resources will be allocated based on assessments of damage, impact, and needs in the affected territories, with priorities aimed at directing assistance to churches and communities experiencing the greatest levels of impact and need. Aid will be channeled through affected churches in prioritized areas, which will serve as liaison points with local communities and facilitate an organized distribution of assistance according to identified needs.
Where conditions of supply, safety, and availability permit, CEDECOL plans to purchase food, essential items, and other necessary goods directly from affected areas or neighboring regions. This approach is intended to meet urgent needs while also supporting local businesses, suppliers, and communities, and to reduce transportation, storage, and logistical costs so that more donated resources can be directed toward those in need. Where local procurement is not possible, CEDECOL may source supplies from other areas, taking into account urgency, cost, quality, availability, and safety.
CEDECOL will monitor the use and allocation of resources received and maintain records of contributions, purchases, areas served, and aid distributed to ensure transparency and accountability toward churches, affiliated organizations, donors, and the wider community.
WEA expresses solidarity with the Evangelical Confederation of Colombia and the communities affected by the earthquake. The global evangelical family is invited to pray for individuals and families impacted, for churches responding on the ground, and for wisdom, strength, and protection for everyone involved in relief and recovery efforts.
