He who began a good work in you will carry if on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Philippians 1:6 (opens in new tab)

19 August 1846, around 900 Christian Leaders gathered in London as an expression of unity. They chose to make visible a unity that was already true. That room was the seed of the World Evangelical Alliance.

Today, the World Evangelical Alliance connects national alliances in more than 164 nations and over 100 international organizations, serving a worldwide evangelical family of more than 650 million Christians.

On WEA Sunday, we celebrate this remarkable story with gratitude to God.

Thus heaven is gathering, one by one, in its capacious breast,
All that is pure and permanent, and beautiful and blest;
The family is scattered yet, though of one home and heart,
Part militant in earthly gloom, in heavenly glory part,
But who can speak the rapture, for when the circle is complete,
And all the children, sundered now, before their Father meet;
One fold, one shepherd, one employ, one everlasting Home —
'Lo, I come quickly'; Even so, Amen, Lord Jesus, come.

Bishop Edward Bickersteth, a participant in the 1846 gathering. pictured the fellowship of believers in heaven and on earth, closed the conference with these lines he composed himself.

Pray for WEA

Unity among the evangelical family according to His prayer in John 17:20-21.

Advocate and represent better the Biblical positions and values and practices of religious freedom and human dignity in halls of power. John 8: 36, Luke 4:18

Serve better the national alliances as a collaborative force to fulfill God's calling in every nation. (Eph 4: 16)

We warmly invite believers across the WEA global family to celebrate WEA Sunday, giving thanks for God's faithfulness across generations and looking with confidence toward all that He continues to do through His Church.

WEA Sunday is an opportunity to celebrate the unity we share in Christ. One possibility is a pulpit exchange, inviting a minister from another church or denomination within the national alliance to preach, while your minister serves in another congregation. Other expressions might include shared prayer, testimonies, Scripture readings, joint gatherings, or recognition of the ministries of other churches and Christian communities.

Above all, we invite all to join in prayer with our global evangelical family.
