Canadian Network of Ministries to Muslims Makes Statement Concerning Qur’an Burning

Members of an independent church led by Terry Jones, the Dove World Christian Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida, had planned to burn copies of the Qur'an in order to mark the events of September 11, 2001. They are still considering taking this action in future.

The Canadian Network of Ministries to Muslims (CNMM), which operates on The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada’s ministry partnerships platform, is publicly opposed to all such actions.  These actions are inconsistent with the teachings of the Bible and the spirit of Christian ministry.  These proposed actions are an inappropriate way to show any solidarity or concern for victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.  

We have encouraged the Church in Canada in the past, and commit ourselves to continue to do so in the future, to pray, and to lovingly and respectfully care for and share the gospel with all Muslim peoples (see
