India: EFI Condoles Dr. YSR Reddy’s Untimely Demise

Evangelical Fellowship of India (EFI) mourns and expresses profound grief over the death of  Dr. Y.S Rajasekhara Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, India.

The bodies of 60-year-old Reddy and his Special Secretary, P. Subramanyam, chief security officer, A S C Wesley, pilot, Group Captain S K Bhatia and co-pilot, M S Reddy were found on located atop Serai Salem hill, at a distance 40 nautical miles (70 kms) east of Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh besides the mangled remains of the helicopter.

The helicopter carrying YSR Reddy, two of his staff and two pilots went missing in pouring rain on September 2 over the Naxal and tiger-infested Nalamalla forests. The Chief Minister left Hyderabad on a six-seater Bell chopper at 8.35am for Chittoor accompanied by his secretary and chief security officer but at 9.27am, radio contact was lost with the helicopter.

The late YSR Reddy in his message dated 19 August 2009 to EFI on the occasion of All India Congress on Church in Mission expressed his gratitude to the “Christian Churches in India for their service to the nation in the field of education, health and social work and for promoting peace, reconciliation and development of all communities irrespective of caste and creed.”

EFI call for prayer for the family of the late Chief Minister and for the families of the four other officers who died in this tragic accident and resolves to continue to serve the nation and promote peace, reconciliation and development of all communities.
