EFI requests your prayers for the following Persecution cases:

29 year old Hemanta Das, an Assamese convert was beaten brutally by unknown persons suspected to be the members of a religious fanatic group on June 28, 2007 who later succumbed to death on July 1 after four days of struggling between life and death at hospital.

Rev. Dr. Ngul Khan Pau, General Secretary of Council of Baptist Churches in North East India (CBCNEI), said that a murder case has been lodged in a local police station and police failed to trace the culprits until the filing of this report.

The cases of atrocities against the Christian minority in the state of Assam have been reported in recent past. Nepali, Assamese and Bodo Christians in lower Assam are the victims of these atrocities.

In another incident an Independent Pastor Samuel Simon, aged 47 years, was arrested by police on falsified charges of forceful conversion and allurement. Rejecting the bail plea District Court Judge Satyendra Mishra remanded the said Pastor in police custody till August 6, 2007 under Section 295A of IPC and Freedom of Religion Act 1968. Accuser Rahul Jangte claimed to have been offered money to convert to Christianity but Preeti Jangte, the accuser’s wife has stated that she is a Buddhist and not converted to any other religion. Rather she clarified that her husband and his family is torturing her for dowry after her marriage and Pastor Samuel use to visit them in order to bring peace in their family.
