A massive Dalit rally was organized in New Delhi at Ram Lila Maidan on 10th Dec. 2007 by All India Confederation of SC/ST Organizations.

Thousands of Dalits from all parts of India came at historic Ram Lila ground to demand reservation in the private sector.

The Confederation is also seeking the enactment of the reservation law by putting reservation in 8th Schedule of the Constitution so that the Judiciary may not interfere with reservation given in the Constitution of India.

Our correspondents, Ujjwal Kumar and Sanjay Paul reported that the Dalits attending the rally were also demanding filling of the vacant posts meant for SC/ST category and more powers to the SC/ST Commissions and land to the landless.

The Chairman of the Confederation Mr. Udit Raj said in the rally that the Government must accept the demands of the Confederation otherwise a nationwide protest will be organized in coming days. Speaking in the rally he said that the Dalits are being humiliated in this country on every stage which will not be tolerated further.

Leaders from various states spoke in the rally in favour of the demands of the Confederation.

The Evangelical Fellowship of India supports the demands of the SC/ST Confederation and urges the government to accept the just demands of Dalit Christians as well.
