As we approach the six month memorial day of East Japan's Great Earthquake Disaster on March 11th 2011, we would like to thank the global evangelical community for persistent prayer and support of Japanese churches and the Japanese people.
More than 15,000 people have died and approximately 5,000 are still missing. Over 50,000 are still displaced. Even though Japan's Christian population is less than 1%, many church groups and organizations are involved with extensive relief work. It has been a great testimony of demonstrating Christ's love to people of Japan.
More than 300 churches were affected by the disaster and all are in the process of recovering and rebuilding. Here at the Japanese Evangelical Alliance (JEA), we are providing financial assistance and spiritual encouragement to the affected churches, and assist in relief coordination among local church networks.
As many people move out of evacuation centers to temporary housing, there are growing needs for emotional and spiritual care. Many cases of suicide due to solitude and hopelessness have been reported.
Please pray that we would be able to bring the true hope of God's love to those people.
Also please pray for the newly appointed Prime Minister Noda and his administration that they will be able to exercise the right kind of leadership to bring positive change in the nation of Japan. We are committed to uniting together to rebuild our nation for God's glory.
Please continue to pray for Japanese churches and Japanese Christians as minister to those who are suffering and share Christ's love with them, that in the end we will see God's glory manifested in the midst of this tremendous disaster.
