We're still reflecting on our global moment when 60 million people engaged in prayer and promise in response to extreme poverty on 10.10.10.

Eight weeks after this event, the stories are still coming in, but also an important question is being raised, "What's next?"

We think this is being answered from people at the grassroots, professional agencies and politicians.  Those committed to eradicating extreme poverty are increasingly concerned about the levels of corruption and poor governance which stands as a tower block in the way of progress.  Poor governance is not just about complicated policies and greedy presidents. It is sometimes closer to us than we think, contributing to over US$1 trillion which goes missing each year creating a vacuum which suffocates the poor.

So we want to raise this issue which stands in the way of progress.  Increasingly here at Micah Challenge we've been talking about 'angry hope'.  It's the kind of tenacity which also celebrates the progress being made in the fight against extreme poverty.  And this is why we are launching 'Open for Service' today.

'Open for Service' is our contribution to the growing debate about good governance.  Let me urge you to read the paper, raise the debate where you are and consider your response to this critical agenda.

December 9th is International Anti-corruption day.  We have launched 'Open for Service' on this date to highlight the growing dialogue in response to extreme poverty.  Micah Challenge is pleased to have the support of international bodies such as the UN Millennium Campaign:  "Good governance is at the heart of all development  progress and the Millennium Campaign welcomes the commitment from Micah Challenge to use the voices of its members to ensure that world leaders govern in a fair, transparent and accountable way..."
