Another Abduction

Manickam Jhonson

On the 18th of June 2007 (yesterday) the family of Mr. Manickam Jhonson from Wellawatte has informed their parish priest of Christ Church Galle Face, Colombo, that he has been abducted. Mr. Jhonson (35) is a prominent member of the Christ Church. He was on his way to a bank, when he went missing between 9 am and 11 am, near the Hatton National Bank in Wellawatte.

The National Christian Council (NCC) has appealed to the Inspector General of Police to find Mr. Jhonson.

Media News reports of 18th June highlighted 5 cases of abductions that have taken place in recent weeks, while the Civil Monitoring Commission has recorded 130 cases of abductions and disappearances for this year.

Pastor Victor Emmanuel Yogarajan

On the 2nd of March 2007, Pastor Victor Emmanuel Yogarajan (51) from the Gospel Missionary Church in Vavuniya and his two sons Daniel Yogarajan (22), David Yogarajan (20) and another young man Joseph Sugandakumar (20) disappeared while traveling to Colombo from Negombo.
All attempts to trace them have proved futile.

We appeal to the President and the Inspector General of Police to intervene in this matter of utmost urgency which is threatening the security of citizens.

We pray for the safe return of Mr. Jhonson, Pastor Yogarajan, his sons and the countless number of others who have been abducted or disappeared.
