October 29, 2009

OTTAWA – The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC) has launched a new resource booklet on human trafficking. Not So Ancient: Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery, is the first in the new [Activate] series. It examines how Canada is both a transfer location and a destination country for traffickers, and offers practical suggestions for how readers can take action.

Created in collaboration with the staff of The EFC’s Centre for Faith and Public Life and a student from an EFC affiliate seminary, this first booklet is in full-colour, glossy format with high-quality images and pictures. Although the booklet is designed to assist youth and young adults in their understanding of the realities of human trafficking, the content will be of value to all generations.

“Canadian Christian youth are becoming increasingly aware of and concerned about human trafficking – both within and outside Canadian borders,” says Julia Beazley, the EFC’s Research & Project Coordinator, Poverty and Homelessness. “We hope this tool will help educate and equip them to become actively involved in the campaign against human trafficking. There is no limit to what young people filled with faith and compassion can accomplish when they are equipped and mobilized. This booklet is designed to help them achieve those ends. It was created by youth for youth – this is a new EFC endeavor and we’re very excited about it.”

The [Activate] series is a resource for youth and young adults seeking to live out their faith in a challenging and impacting way. The booklets will include current statistical and factual information, case studies, testimonies, scriptural foundation for the principles discussed as well as action items that can be undertaken by young people alone or in conjunction with their churches, families and youth groups.
