Today’s the day!

Churches throughout the Vancouver area are prepared and ready to welcome a world of guests! Frank Stirk writing for Canadian Christianity says Christians of Metro Vancouver have the potential of making a long-lasting impression upon athletes and tourists alike.

Radical hospitality is the theme! Local Christians are seizing on the Games as a chance to enjoy a gigantic communal event and to remind anyone who cares to listen that there are more important things in life than sports, says Douglas Todd, columnist for the Vancouver Sun.

From serving coffee to providing transportation and overnight accommodations, everyone’s getting involved. Brian Doerksen’s full-length theatrical musical Prodigal God will be the flagship Christian event of the Olympics. It tells a riveting story of the grace of an extravagant Father as seen through the eyes of the older brother.

In the meantime, parliamentary debates continue even during a prorogued parliament. Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff’s insistence that abortion be included in Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s initiative to improve maternal and infant health worldwide has received opposition. “If Mr. Ignatieff really cares about maternal and infant health, maybe he should take a look at how Poland and Ireland have achieved their astonishing success,” says Ian Gentles for the National Post. Since party leaders don’t want to debate issues surrounding abortion in the House, the debate has moved to the media.

And also – it’s Valentine’s Day again, but how many out there are lonely? “We all need to be part of the “simple joys” that help others to make it in the journey of life,” says Moira Brown. She invites us to be “His heart of compassion, His helping hand extended.”

We invite you to check out these articles, and visit our homepage for more. Have a chocolate and enjoy the Olympics!
