The International Council (IC) of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) has mandated its chairman, Rev. Ndaba Mazabane, to act as the interim leader of the WEA as of January 1st, 2015. He will serve in this role until a new CEO is appointed as successor of Dr. Geoff Tunnicliffe, whose tenure ended in December after ten years of leadership.
Rev. Mazabane, who has served on the IC for 14 years, will be leading the WEA’s Executive Team and serve as spokesperson for the organization. He is based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
“I am honored to temporarily fill in the gap left by our dear friend and former Secretary General, Dr. Tunnicliffe,” said Rev. Mazabane. “Transitions by nature are a little messy and disruptive. But I am grateful and take solace in the fact that WEA is not in a crisis.”
“Dr. Tunnicliffe has left a strong and capable leadership team and I have full confidence that together we will continue to work towards the betterment and growth of our movement as we respond to the needs of the world and our global family. I firmly believe that God has given us this window of opportunity and change in leadership, so that we will steer the WEA towards even greater things,“ he added.
Meanwhile, the search process for a new Secretary General and CEO is in its final stage with an appointment anticipated in the upcoming weeks.
