The World Evangelical Alliance (WEA), reflecting the convictions of the vast majority of evangelical and other Christians in the world, is saddened by Terry Jones’ false representation of the grace and truth of Jesus Christ. An apology would have contributed to reducing unacceptable violence triggered in some parts of the globe by his actions.
The WEA reaffirms
· That as Christians we are called to love our neighbors, do good to them, and build bridges of understanding and respect and, by so doing, demonstrate the character of our faith
· An appeal to global religious, political and media leaders to respond with the same kind of justifiable outrage against acts of violence directed at people of all faiths as they have against the proposed burning of the Qur’an
World Evangelical Alliance (WEA): World Evangelical Alliance is made up of 128 national evangelical alliances located in 7 regions and 104 associate member organizations. The vision of WEA is to extend the Kingdom of God by making disciples of all nations and by Christ-centered transformation within society. WEA exists to foster Christian unity, to provide an identity, voice and platform for the 420 million evangelical Christians worldwide.
