“We are delighted that Meriam Yahya Ibrahim Ishag is now free and along with her family bound for the United States. We are grateful for the prayers of many and the support of many governments and in particular Italy in securing the release of Meriam," says Dr. Geoff Tunnicliffe, Secretary General of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA). "We are also reminded of the ongoing need to pray and advocate for many others around the world who are imprisoned, persecuted or discriminated against because of their faith,”
Ms. Ibrahim, her husband and the two young children safely arrived in Rome, Italy, yesterday and will soon be traveling to the United States. The WEA has earlier sent a media release when she was released from prison, but her departure was then again denied by Sudan because of allegedly improper travel documents.
