“For religious, educational and humanitarian purposes which will assist in promoting closer fellowship in members’ work and worship” is the stated purpose for which the Alliance of Evangelical Churches Inc. Grenada has been brought into being.

The final steps began to be put in place on December 12, 2007 when a number of pastors committed to the concept of an Evangelical Alliance. On January 21, 2008 an interim committee was formed to bring the many years of discussion to fruition.

The interim committee completed the constitution & bylaws using that of the Barbados Evangelical Association as a model, registered the Alliance, opened a bank account, met with denominational heads, and held intermittent meetings with interested pastors.

On January 24, 2009 the first Annual General Meeting was held where officers were elected. President of the Alliance is Rev. Ricardo Alleyne, Vice President is Rev. Gerald Keens-Douglas, Secretary is Rev. Benedict Newton, Treasurer is Rev. Adrian Banfield and Member is Ms. Eleanor Swan.

The meeting thanked Bishop Gerry Seale, General Secretary of the Evangelical Association of the Caribbean, for his interest and assistance through the years and especially in the past year as plans were finalised for the formal launch of the Alliance. According to Shane Joseph, Interim Secretary, Bishop Seale’s help “meant hope, direction, support, leadership and connection for this local body.”

Bishop Seale, in addressing the meeting, said that the building of relationships between the parts of the Body of Christ was biblical, would be a powerful witness to the nation of Grenada and would enable the Church to speak prophetically into the nation. He also stated that as the parts of the Body of Christ were able to build synergy Grenada would be transformed, which would in turn transform the Caribbean and impact the world.

Warm greetings were conveyed to the Alliance from Rev. Geoff Tunnicliffe, International Director of the World Evangelical Alliance, and Rev. Dr. Ken Ragoonath, President of the Evangelical Association of the Caribbean.
