The Guyana Evangelical Fellowship (GEF) launched its Youth Network during the opening ceremony of its first Youth Festival in Georgetown on July 18. Eworth Williams from the Full Gospel Fellowship has been asked to lead the new network which draws membership from the member-churches of GEF. This network has been launched in direct response to an initiative taken by the Evangelical Association of the Caribbean (EAC) in cooperation with the Youth Commission of World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) last May in St. Maarten to develop a regional youth network. Members of GEF’s Executive and EAC’s General Secretary were present for the launch of the network and the commissioning of the leadership team.
The Youth Festival was held July 18-21 around the theme “Every Day God Experience” (EDGE). Groups of youth from Suriname and French Guiana attended adding an international flavour to the festival. It is expected that the youth festival will be held annually in the future. Speakers at the festival were drawn from Barbados, Trinidad, Guyana and the USA.
EAC’s General Secretary, Rev. Gerry Seale, welcomed the establishing of the Guyana Youth Network and lauded the Guyana Evangelical Fellowship in launching an annual youth festival. “This is a good effort,” stated Rev. Seale. “Future festivals need to build on the gains from this year and minister to as wide a cross-section of Evangelicals in Guyana as possible.”
