Four women missionaries of the Gospel for Asia serving in Thosam, Bhiwani District in Haryana were severely beaten in their home on February 4th by radical Hindu groups. Two pastors of the same organization were also injured in the attack.
The women missionaries have been working in this area for about a year. On February 4, anti-Christian fundamentalists ordered the women to vacate their flat immediately. They also told the women to call their supervising pastors.
After the pastors, Vijaya K.P. and Raj Kumar came to the house, a mob gathered and a group of the fundamentalists broke into the house and accosted the women and the two pastors who had come to their assistance. According to local sources, the Christians were slapped and a local police officer used his police night stick to beat Pastor Vijaya who suffered injuries on his head. No medical tests have been conducted.
When the attackers finally left, the missionaries sought refuge in the GFA-affiliated church in that area. News of the attack, including photos of the injured women and the pastors were published on Feb 5 in the Dainik Jagran, a leading Hindi daily.
When the Christian Legal Association of India (CLAI) contacted the coordinator of the Gospel for Asia, he mentioned that no FIR had yet been filed though they had met with the Superintendent of Police.
Pray for the protection of GFA missionaries and that the attackers would be brought to justice.
