Help Defend Marriage
We are at a crossroads in the fight to defend traditional marriage. Attorney General Holder’s announcement on Feb. 23 that the administration will no longer defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in federal court is a break with the time honored tradition in which the Justice Department works to uphold laws passed by Congress. Congress now needs to step in and hire its own lawyers to defend traditional marriage—IF we can convince them to do so. (take action)
Evangelicals Pray for Arms Trade Treaty Negotiations
This month, negotiations for the first international treaty governing arms trade begin in New York with a goal of obtaining an agreement by mid-2012. The NAE invites members to join evangelicals around the world in praying for God’s guidance on international negotiations on the Arms Trade Treaty. (read more)
Poverty-focused International Aid Letter
The NAE joined World Relief and other faith-based organizations in a letter to congressional leaders expressing concern over proposed disproportionate cuts to poverty-focused international assistance programs. These programs represent less than one percent of the federal budget but save millions of lives every year. (read more)
Stop Prison Rape
The Justice Department has asked the public for comments on the proposed national standards to prevent, detect and respond to the rape and sexual abuse of prisoners. The document can be found here. The NAE will develop recommended comments that individuals can adapt and send to the Justice Department. To receive a copy, write to [email protected]. The deadline to submit comments is April 4.
Evangelical Leaders Meet in Utah
The NAE Board of Directors, which includes the CEOs of 40 denominations and representatives of a broad array of evangelical organizations and churches, will gather in Park City and Salt Lake City on March 10, 2011 for its semiannual board meeting. (read more)

Feeding Children this Summer
When school is finished, the 20 million children who receive free or reduced-price lunch during the school year through U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National School Lunch Program will be in trouble. Many don’t realize that the USDA has a Summer Food Service Program that can help bridge the gap between school years for low-income children. Faith-based and community organizations can get free meals for kids by being a site or sponsor in the program. (read more)
