Help Defend Marriage
We are at a crossroads in the fight to defend traditional marriage. Attorney General Holder’s announcement on Feb. 23 that the administration will no longer defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in federal court is a break with the time honored tradition in which the Justice Department works to uphold laws passed by Congress. Congress now needs to step in and hire its own lawyers to defend traditional marriage—IF we can convince them to do so. (take action)

Poverty-focused International Aid Letter

Stop Prison Rape
The Justice Department has asked the public for comments on the proposed national standards to prevent, detect and respond to the rape and sexual abuse of prisoners. The document can be found
here. The NAE will develop recommended comments that individuals can adapt and send to the Justice Department. To receive a copy, write to [email protected]. The deadline to submit comments is April 4.

Evangelical Events
The NAE recently added a calendar to its website, which will serve as clearinghouse for a variety of evangelical events from denominational conferences to leadership conventions. We hope this will be a useful tool in strategic planning and cooperation among our members and others. Email the NAE office if you are interested in adding your event to the calendar. Feeding Children this Summer
When school is finished, the 20 million children who receive free or reduced-price lunch during the school year through U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National School Lunch Program will be in trouble. Many don’t realize that the USDA has a Summer Food Service Program that can help bridge the gap between school years for low-income children. Faith-based and community organizations can get free meals for kids by being a site or sponsor in the program. (read more)
