On 13 May 2024, the Women’s Commission of the WEA and Rise in Strength were delighted to present the first in a series of webinars on women and men co-working and co-leading for the sake of the kingdom of God.
Women leaders at the Rise in Strength consultation in March (Rise 24) stressed a need for in-depth online learning. This first discussion, ‘Co-workers and Co-leaders: Women and Men Partnering for God’s Work,’ focused on the experiences of two theologians and mission experts:
Rev Dr. Chris Wright was the Chair of the Lausanne Cape Town Commitment document (2010) and has over 40 years of experience teaching about global missions.
Rev Esme Bowers currently serves as the Director for Church Engagement for the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) and has had a lifetime of leading and serving women and men in Africa.
We were pleased to have colleagues, emerging leaders, and friends engaging in this dynamic dialogue facilitated by StacieNicole Simmons.
Here are few takeaways from the webinar – The church should take the lead in advocating for a world which encourages and empowers women and men to work together, according to their gifts to achieve God’s purposes. Co-working goes back to Genesis. From the beginning, God intended for the man and the women to jointly exercise their responsibility in caring for creation, standing side by side as co-leaders. Our panelists shared stories of women and men embracing the value of leading together from their different contexts. Additional emphasis celebrated the strides forward since the Cape Town Commitment from 23 years ago.
