WEA Engages Global Bible Leaders at UBS 80th Anniversary Event

Rev. Samuel Chiang, Special Advisor to the Secretary General of the World Evangelical Alliance, speaking at UBS’ 80th anniversary.

Rev. Samuel Chiang, Special Advisor to the Secretary General of the World Evangelical Alliance, participated in an in-person event hosted by United Bible Societies (UBS) from 11–18 May 2026, including celebrations marking the organization’s 80th anniversary. As part of the Vision Steering Group, he contributed to shaping and bringing the conference to life.

Founded in 1946, United Bible Societies is a global fellowship of 156 Bible Societies serving more than 240 countries and territories. In 2025, UBS released the Patmos Survey, the largest and most comprehensive study of global Bible attitudes ever conducted, gathering responses from 91,000 adults across 85 countries. The survey played a foundational role in shaping the planning process for the WEA General Assembly in 2025.

Discussion notes during cluster breakout sessions

The event itself was intentionally interactive. Participants were seated within clusters identified through the survey, each representing distinct missiological contexts. Across all seven clusters, three common themes emerged independently: the importance of engaging the next generation, the growing significance of digital engagement, and the risks of importing solutions that address questions not being asked within a given local context.

As a partner of United Bible Societies, the World Evangelical Alliance remains committed to deepening biblical engagement worldwide. With 163 national and regional alliances around the globe, the WEA is committed to cultivating enough shared language for meaningful collaboration while preserving sufficient contextual freedom to respond authentically and effectively within diverse settings.
