Celebrate 2033

2,000 years of celebrating Jesus coming

For 2,000 years, the Gospel witness of Jesus has transformed human lives, altered societies and stood the test of time. In today’s chaotic age, it surprises many that the Gospel witness is attracting younger generations, churches are planted and ministries—ranging from public witness to justice concerns, to societal transformation—are springing up.

Evangelicals make up one-quarter of the world’s 2.4 billion Christians.

For 178 years, we have been united globally by the World Evangelical Alliance. Evangelicals, with no world center or global denomination, are by nature spontaneous and self-mobilizing—responding to the Spirit’s prompting, observing local needs, and following leadership initiatives.

The World Evangelical Alliance church movement is made up of millions of local congregations, uniting in fellowship in their respective countries, regions and the world.

Within this free-flowing style, WEA is a strategic gravitational center:

With our sights set on celebrating 2,000 years of Jesus' reign on earth, two factors are at play:

  • Affirming biblical orthodoxy
  • Speaking for those suffering persecution
  • Reminding churches of Jesus’ call to follow him in evangelism and discipleship
  • Providing national frameworks for cooperation and spiritual unity
  • As we celebrate 2000 years since his coming, in 2033 AD, we are reminded of our calling: to be diligent in how we work, to be always purposeful in what we seek to accomplish and to serve, relying his anointing.
  • As Evangelicals, in serving a quarter of the world’s Christians, every five years we host the WEA General Assembly, assembling leadership from 143 countries in our calling to live in unity as Jesus prayed and to keep alive and operationally intact, this worldwide network.

Three Key Phases

Clarifying our Vision

The apostle Paul wrote about king David that “he served his generation” (Acts 14). So do we. As leadership transfers to a new generation, it matters that we clarify vision. This clarifying of vision begins with key stakeholders, which, in preparation for our General Assembly, calls for a serious review of our mandate and reflection on priorities.

Reimagining our Mandate

Clarifying vision leads to restating our mandate, which will be rolled out at the October 2025 General Assembly. Building on Roadmap 2030, this reimagining of our mandate will give attention to these prime values: evangelism, discipleship, unity and advocacy.

Mobilizing for Action

Following the General Assembly, we will turn our reimagined mandate into action. Here we will ask our leaders from around the world to give heart and soul to mobilizing churches towards evangelism, discipleship and advocacy, living to fulfill Jesus’ call for unity.

What will it take?

Looking to this year of 2033, as Christians worldwide celebrate two millennia of Christ’s reign, we ask you to join us in this unique partnering, in funding men and women from up to 143 countries, which enables this bold plan of clarifying vision, reimagining mandate and mobilizing to action.

The General Assembly in Seoul, South Korea, October 2025 is key. WEA meets every five years to set its sights on mission and fulfill its constitutional responsibility. This event is highlighted by the unique moment of as we look forward to celebrating in eight years, the 2000th anniversary of the first advent of our Lord’s coming.
