Christians Attacked in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh
The Evangelical Fellowship of India (EFI) expresses deep concern at the latest attack against the Christian Minority group in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
On 27th of January 2006 at 9:30 am, three pastors and about 20 others were seriously injured when around 30 fundamentalists attacked the prayer meeting they were attending in Govindpur district.
While the prayer meeting was being held in the house of one of the Christ, Mr. Freddie Prakash, somebody threw a stone at the window. In the commotion that ensued 30 persons barged into the house and started beating the Christians present with sticks.
Rev. S.V. Francis who was leading the prayer meeting suffered serious injuries to his hand and leg. Rev. Kishore Vathwani, a visiting pastor, from Nagpur suffered serious head injuries and Rev Ivan Pereira suffered injuries to his head and hand. They are presently admitted in Hemedia Hospital, a state run hospital.
The police have registered a case against the unidentified assailants under sections of the Indian Penal Code.
EFI has also learnt of two other incidents of violence against the community on the 25th and 26th of January at Jhubha and Jabalpur, respectively.
