Deerfield, IL – May 28, 2020
The World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) announced today the beginning of the search for its next Secretary General / CEO who is to assume leadership of the organization early next year. In a letter to WEA members, Rev Dr Goodwill Shana, Chair of the International Council (IC) and member of the Search Committee, outlined the process for the search and appointment of the next leader. He also thanked current Secretary General Bp Efraim Tendero for his faithful service in leading the global body of evangelicals.
After serving a full five year term Bp Tendero was requested to extend his tenure for another year to allow sufficient time for a smooth search process and transition after the WEA General Assembly in Jakarta last November. Thus, he will continue to serve as Secretary General until the beginning of next year.
To assist in the search process a website has been launched with job description and online forms to nominate suitable candidates or to directly apply for the position. Nominations and applications will be received until August 31, 2020 with the anticipation to identify and confirm a successor by November, which will allow for a period of transition.
“This process is a major and significant step in the life of any organization and in particular that of WEA. The next decade is promising to be dimensionally different and unprecedented in the number of global shifts that the world might experience. We have already begun to experience the global impact of the current corona virus pandemic on world trends and how that impacts the Church,” said Rev Dr Shana. “I would therefore like to ask all members, associates, partners, staff and stakeholders to take time to pray that this process will be blessed of the Lord and that the person of the Lord‘s choosing would be found and selected to lead WEA into the future.”
