26th September 2024 – The World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) and Lausanne Workplace Network (LWN) announce the launch of the Global Day of Faith at Work (GDFW), a worldwide event to be held annually starting on 1st May 2025. This momentous occasion aims to bring together the global Christian community to celebrate, commission, and integrate faith into the workplace, encouraging believers to live out their calling in and through the workplace. Notably, GDFW was announced at the Fourth Lausanne Congress in Seoul-Incheon.
The GDFW will take place on 1st May, 2025, which coincides with International Labor Day. This synergy highlights the significance of work as a form of worship and the vital role Christians play in their work lives. The initiative draws inspiration from the late Rev. Billy Graham’s belief that the next great move of God will be through believers in the workplace.
The event will feature a global prayer event held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM local time, allowing Christians from all time zones to participate in unity. The theme, Work as Worship, will emphasize how everyday tasks and professional roles are an opportunity to fulfill the Great Commission. Participating businesses, churches, ministries, seminaries, and organizations will hold local services to commission their members, equipping them to be missional disciples in their workplace.
“This initiative has the power to transform how Christians engage with their work environments,” says Samuel Chiang, Deputy Secretary General of the WEA. “By commissioning believers, we are recognizing the workplace as the largest mission field and empowering them to live out their faith daily.”
Joseph Vijayam, Lausanne Catalyst for Workplace Ministry, describes GDFW as “a meaningful reminder that our work is more than a responsibility; it is a calling. As Christians, we aim to be Christ’s hands and feet in every workplace, allowing His light to shine through our actions, integrity, and love. May this day inspire us to serve purposefully and reflect God’s grace in all that we do.”
A newly launched website, GlobalFaithAtWork.org, will support GDFW by offering resources for businesses, churches, organizations, and individuals to prepare for the event. These will include prayers, worship materials, and tools for hosting the event worldwide.
As Christians worldwide face increasingly complex workplace challenges, the Global Day of Faith at Work will serve as a unifying call to integrate faith into every aspect of life, transforming workplaces and communities with the love of Christ.
