The first ever South Pacific Evangelical Alliance General Assembly took place in Papua New Guinea from March 25th to 28th, 2025, bringing together representatives from 11 Pacific nations in a landmark gathering of faith and unity. Planned by New Zealand, Australia, and Papua New Guinea, this assembly held special significance as Papua New Guinea prepares to celebrate its 50th Golden Jubilee in September and as per the recently news government is moving legislation to declare Papua New Guinea a Christian nation.

The Assembly focused on the essence of evangelism and the Great Commission, emphasizing the call to take the Gospel to all nations and make disciples. Delegates were inspired to actively engage in sharing their faith, strengthening their communities, and fostering unity among different Christian traditions. A key takeaway was the importance of mobilizing youth leaders and equipping them with discipleship strategies to deepen their relationship with God and spread the Gospel beyond denominational lines.

As leaders returned to their nations, they carried a renewed sense of purpose, unity, and collaboration, knowing that now is the time for the church to rise, walk together, and fulfill its calling. Looking ahead, there is a shared commitment among South Pacific Island nations to work together and advance God’s Kingdom, ensuring that the Gospel reaches every person by 2033. This Assembly marks the beginning of a powerful movement of faith across the region, driven by love, unity, and a deep passion for Christ.

Rachel Afeaki, Regional General Secretary , SPEA, added, “I think going forward we can only pray that the South Pacific Island nations will work together collaboratively to see God’s kingdom advance and to ensure that the gospel is received by everyone by 2033.“ Deputy Secretary General, Rev. Samuel Chiang represented the WEA in this landmartk meeting in Papua New Guinea.

The South Pacific Evangelical Alliance (SPEA) works closely with National Alliances and Christian organisations across the region to include small island nations to become involved.
