Dr. Douglas CarewIt is with heavy hearts that the World Evangelicals Alliance (WEA) announces the passing of Dr. Douglas Carew, vice-chancellor of Africa International University (AIU, formerly known as NEGST). Dr. Carew was a very respected leader in Africa and around the world. His death is a great loss to the evangelical church in Africa and to evangelical scholarship. In addition to his role at AIU, Dr. Carew also served as president of ACTEA (Accrediting Council for Theological Education in Africa), which is part of ICETE (International Council for Evangelical Theological Education), a WEA Global Partner.

Only a few weeks ago Dr. Carew and AIU hosted the ICETE global consultation in Nairobi, at which Dr. Geoff Tunnicliffe, WEA Secretary General, Dr. Thomas Schirrmacher, Chair of WEA's Theological Commission, and Dr. Rosalee Velloso Ewell, Executive Director of WEA's Theological Commission, were all speakers and participants.

"It was an honour for us to be part of that consultation and to see the amazing ministry of Dr. Carew and his team in Kenya. Yet another precious servant of God has gone home. Our hearts and prayers are with Dr. Carew's family and friends scattered all around the globe", said Dr. Ewell upon learning of Douglas Carew's death.

As a global body of evangelicals, the WEA grieves alongside the family of this servant of God and we offer our help and prayers for AIU and ACTEA as they discern the best way forwards for the work of the Kingdom in Africa. How grateful we are for the hope we have in the resurrection!
