The political situation in the Sister Republic of Honduras in which president Manuel Zelaya was removed and Robert Micheleti put in place by congress has caused a national and international reaction that has had significant  poverty-causing economic and political effects on the Honduran community and the Central American Region.

We respond:

The Central American Evangelical Confederation states the following:

1.- We call on all parties involved who have confessed faith and claim to know God, as well as their highest leaders, to seek divine guidance for the solution of this conflict.

2.- God´s Word commands in Romans 13:1-2 to ¨submit himself to the governing authorities…¨;  the Political being the maximum authority in the nation, we appeal to strict adherence to this as the supreme law of Honduras.

3.- That the primary actors in the conflict should meet to dialogue in order to avoid an unnecessary spilling of blood and to find the quickest road possible to peace and towards the ithmus dream – the continued unity of Central American nations.

4.- Representing the Central American Evangelical Churches, including thos in Panama and Belize, we are ready to join our efforts and work together towards leaving behind us this conflict that has affected Central American people.

5.- We call on the 14.5 million Evangelical Christians gathered by the Evangelical Alliances as well as on the Evangelical Community of Central America, including Panama and Belize, to plead with God just as the Lord commands in his Word in 1 Timothy 2:1-3 ¨…that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives…¨, recognizing that He is the only one who can bring a solution to those who pray and humble themselves before Him.

Signed in the City of Managua on July second, 2009.
