Continuing with the long-standing relationship between the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) and Nadhlatul Ulama (NU) a summit meeting took place on June 14th in Singapore with senior principles of their respective organizations.
Rev. Adv. Botrus Mansour, Secretary General, WEA met with the Chairman of the Central Executive Board of the NU Yahya Cholil Staquf, in the first face to face meeting between the Evangelical and Muslim leaders.
Newly elected WEA Secretary General Rev. Adv. Mansour who previously met Chairman Staquf online in April was optimistic about the meeting. “This was our first face to face meeting where we were able to learn more about each other and develop trust. As religious leaders, we recognize the value of a trusting relationship in our possible future programs.”
In line with the dialogue and programs the conversation in Singapore revolved around possible advancing and widening joint activities which had begun between the two organizations. The face to face meeting also touched on the R20 a religious conference scheduled to be held in US in December and co-sponsored by Chairman Staquf.
The summit meeting was attended by Rev. Dr. Thomas K. Johnson, WEA Special Advisor who co-chaired the Humanitarian Islam/WEA Joint Working Group and continues to represent WEA in this regard.
