Report on the WEA Singles Initiative in Indonesia, Malaysia, East Malaysia, Nepal and Philippines

May/June 2024 : Mark McLeod, WEA Singles Advocate

WEA Singles Advocacy Team: Canada, India, Israel, Malaysia, Philippines

The World Evangelical Alliance celebrates the growing single and single-again evangelical demographic worldwide and is advancing a paradigm that fully values, engages and empowers single persons within the global Christian family.

A WEA Singles Advocacy team spent May and June in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, East Malaysia and Nepal, networking with local and national evangelical leadership and sharing biblical theology of singleness resources with seminaries, bible schools and churches. The team also had opportunity to share these resources with police, military and government agencies.

This trip followed up on our WEA Singles 2023 initiative.

Philippines May 11-26

Our team was hosted by the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches, a nationwide network of evangelical denominations, churches and Christian organizations. Under the guidance of Jo Equico and the PCEC Church Ministries team our mission was to help lay a foundation for a future PCEC Singles Initiative/Commission.

In Baguio City our team ministered in various churches and presented a Marriage, Family and Singleness seminar for the local police department. Melanie Nelson, Dr. Leela Manasseh and our team member from Israel [name withheld] had the opportunity to speak at a women’s Christian conference on singleness, family and spiritual family. Our team was also invited to make a presentation to a local high school.

In Manila, Dr. Barry Danylak (SEE Global) and Rev. Jacob David (Malaysia) shared biblical theology of singleness presentations at the National Promise Keepers Convention. Our Israeli representative hosted a community Shabbat dinner at the World Team Guest House and several of our team spoke at various Sunday services.

In Davos and Digos City, we presented Marriage, Family and Singleness seminars to a local church as well as to military, police and government staff. We also participated in a ground breaking ceremony for a new church plant and spoke at various Sunday services.

*Barry Danylak of SEE Global will be returning to the Philippines February 2025 to conduct city wide Marriage, Family and Singleness seminars with local churches, and will also be presenting seminars at various seminaries and Bible Schools.

*Both Barry and Jacob will be presenting at No Man Left Alone Promise Keeper events across the nation.  Our Israeli team member will also be returning to the Philippines for ongoing discipleship ministry.

Indonesia May 26-27

Barry Danylak (and Dr. Leela Manasseh via Zoom) were in Jakarta for a 2 day Singleness in the Christian World seminar hosted by Family First Indonesia and Gracia Global Indonesia Theological College. There is much interest in ongoing seminars and the translation of related resources.

Malaysia May 30-June 18

Barry Danylak spoke at Glad Tidings Assembly of God in Petaling Jaya as well as New Life Restoration Center. He also presented a 4 day collaborative seminar with Malaysian Theological Seminary, the Biblical College of Malaysia, and the Alpha-Omega seminary. He will be returning in 2025 for continued ministry.

Mark McLeod and Jacob David travelled to the States of Sabah and Sarawak in East Malaysia to meet with leadership of the Borneo Evangelical Alliance, the largest evangelical denomination in Malaysia. BEM scholars will be translating Barry’s book Singleness in God’s Redemptive Story into the Malay language and will also begin planning for related seminars in 2025.

Nepal June 24-30

Pastor Sher, General Secretary of the National Churches Fellowship of Nepal, hosted Barry Danylak for eight days in Kathmandu. Barry spoke in local churches, met with national seminary and church leadership and presented a four day Marriage, Family and Singleness seminar. He will be returning in 2025 for future ministry.

Our “second missionary journey” has been a great success. The WEA Singleness Initiative is a “new thing”, and Biblical Theology of Singleness resources and teaching are highly valued and needed by local, national and regional evangelical entities. The various singles influencers on our team will continue future ministry with these groups in 2025 and ongoing.
